Dave Sarachan names 21-player USMNT roster for Portugal friendly

The U.S. national team squad for their friendly at Portugal on November 14 has been announced.

Midfielders Weston McKennie and Tyler Adams, 17-old forward Josh Sargent, defender Cameron Carter-Vickers and goalkeeper Jesse Gonzalez could make their USA national team debuts in a November 14 exhibition at Portugal. This, however, is the first time he's been called up to the senior squad. The others are Club Brugge's Ethan Horvath (one) and FC Dallas's Jesse Gonzalez (none).

Defender John Brooks returns from a torn thigh muscle suffered August 12 that caused him to miss qualifiers in September and October.

This squad features just three of the players who took the field in the Americans' embarrassing defeat to Trinidad and Tobago that kept them out of the World Cup.

It's hard to say whether Cam might make his senior debut for U.S. against Portugal; CCV will be competing for minutes with Miazga, John Brooks, and Tim Ream. He is likely to captain the squad.

DHS ends Temporary Protected Status for Nicaraguans, delays decision for Hondurans
The department's announcement came 60 days before the programs for both countries were slated to expire on January 5, 2018. In the next few months, the status of hundreds of thousands of TPS recipients will be up for decision.

"The one word that I would use in reference to all of this is opportunity", Sarachan told ussoccer.com in a Q&A released alongside the roster. He could become the first player to appear for the Under-17, Under-20 and national team in the same year.

Forward Jordan Morris is still recovering from a right hamstring injury suffered September 10, forward Bobby Wood is out with a knee problem and winger Paul Arriola is recovering from an unspecified medical procedure. It's also just an opportunity to move on.

Sarachan, who is leading the program on an interim basis while the federation conducts a thorough search for former boss Bruce Arena's long-term successor, called on eight MLS standouts, but elected to leave out anyone still involved with the Audi 2017 MLS Cup Playoffs. "As much as we're still gutted from how things turned out with qualifying, we have to look ahead and finish out the year the right way". Tim Ream and Alejandro Bedoya will be expected to lead this group, along with star defender John Brooks, who missed the T&T match due to injury.

Midfielders: Kellyn Acosta, FC Dallas (22 years old, 16 caps); Tyler Adams, New York Red Bulls (18, 0); Alejandro Bedoya, Philadelphia Union (30, 65); Lynden Gooch, Sunderland (21, 2); Weston McKennie, Schalke (19, 0); Kelyn Rowe, New England Revolution (25, 3); Danny Williams, Huddersfield Town (28, 22).
