Microsoft announces support for SAP's S4/HANA software on Azure

Microsoft and SAP have announced an expanded partnership with the intention of offering enterprise customers a trusted path to digital transformation. The companies will deploy each other's cloud solutions internally, and encourage joint support services to run SAP software on Azure cloud services. The offering will allow both companies customers to run the SAP S/4HANA suite of enterprise resource planning applications on a secure and managed cloud. Microsoft plans to use SAP S/4HANA from Azure, replacing its existing SAP implementation, for tracking its internal financial operations.

"As technology transforms every business and every industry, organizations are looking for the right platforms and trusted partners to help accelerate their digital transformation".

"We are taking our partnership to the next level with this new capability to run SAP S/4HANA in the Microsoft Azure environment".

To their credit, SAP has over 365,000 businesses and public sector customers it's bringing to the table to accompany Microsoft Azure's ballooning portfolio.

Microsoft and SAP already have several joint customers, including Coca-Cola, Columbia Sportswear and Coats and Costco Wholesale. By the same token, SAP agreed to run its HANA database software on Azure. Both companies will document their projects so they can share their application deployment experiences with customers. SAP is the market leader in application software management that enables businesses to find efficiencies in their everyday workloads that include back office, warehouse, storefront, internal and external program optimizations to list a few. Microsoft customers will benefit from high-quality location data from TomTom's unique global community and its global partner network, whose users continually provide active and passive map and traffic data insights. Microsoft also plans to connect S/4HANA to Azure AI and analytics services for use in finance, officials said. "We produce innovative products that allow our customers to pursue and enjoy their outdoor passions".

The deal is a win-win for both Microsoft and SAP, said Marty Puranik, CEO of cloud hosting provider Atlantic.Net. "The Microsoft and SAP alliance provides us with the assurance we need for our innovation in the cloud". If customers choose to run SAP on Azure infrastructure, they'll be billed according to virtual machine time and other Azure services they use.
