Security Firm Claims to have Cracked iPhoneX's FaceID System

A Vietnamese firm claims to have created a mask which can beat Apple's face ID system into unlocking the iPhone X. The firm called Bkav created an elaborate mask through 2D and 3D configuration using a printer.

In a blog post and YouTube video (below) published on Friday, Bkav appears to show how they cracked an iPhone X's Face ID using a mask made from 3D-printed plastic, silicone, makeup and cutouts for the eyes, nose and mouth.

Face ID is still proving to be more secure than some of the facial recognition options in Android, which have been fooled with just photos in the past.

Apple claims the chances of a random stranger being able to unlock an iPhone X which does not belong to them are a million to one.

Redskins receiver Jamison Crowder returning from injury against Vikings
Kai Forbath, though, kicked a 53-yard field goal with 7:45 left in the game to give the Vikings a safe 38-27 lead. A 5-9, 175-pound graduate of Duke University, Crowder starred in football and basketball at Monroe High.

Sadly for Cook, the evil twin has arrived but in the form of a specially crafted 3D-printed face mask, despite the fact that Apple took help from Hollywood make-up artists and professional mask makers to ensure Face ID wasn't fooled by such masks. "On the inverse, if security is your priority, until more is tested against Face ID, I'd suggest using only a passcode, all the time". "Security units' competitors, commercial rivals of corporations, and even nations might benefit from our PoC", they said. It's Face ID or nothing. Instead, they focused only on specific spots of the mask to trick the depth-mapping technology. They needed a detailed map of the user's face which required five minutes of scanning the victim's face.

X RATED Is Apple's £999 iPhone X the best smartphone EVER? A person has to take an accurate scan of your face, make a mask, and then be able to steal your phone. This is a rather serious issue, considering it's relatively easy to make this happen.

Apple's design chief Jony Ive said in an interview with Wallpaper that the iPhone X would get a lot of new features via software updates over the next year. So, the device is going to "change and evolve" further in the coming months. The technology didn't even fall for well-lit photographs or other faces that had similar features.
