'Two leaves' symbol allotted to EPS-OPS faction

'Two leaves' symbol allotted to EPS-OPS faction

Prior election commission canceled the R.K Nagar bye-poll elections due to rampant abuse of money power to influence voters and the symbol remained frozen as the Election Commission recognized a split in the party.

Chennai: Reclaiming the Two Leaves symbol, is for sure, a shot in the arm for Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and his deputy O. Panneerselvam, but the Election Commission order will also exert pressure on the ruling camp to win the prestigious RK Nagar constituency that will go to bypolls by the end of this year.

Summary: The party symbol has been restored to the unified AIADMK under Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam and his boss in the government E Palaniswamy. EC was determined to freeze the two leaves symbol.

On allegations that the judgement was awarded in their favour due to proximity with BJP, Palaniswami said, "Our side had more supporters and legislators".

"Waiting for the hard copy of the order but have got information from the EC orally that the two leaves symbol has been allotted to us", he said.

Chiefs sign Darrelle Revis
The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Wednesday that the club has signed free agent cornerback Darrelle Revis . Darrelle Revis is making his National Football League return with a winning club.

The Commission felt that the group led by Madhusudhanan was recognised in terms of para 15 of the Election Symbols (Reservation and Allotment) Order, 1968, as the AIADMK.

The EC also noted that at least 1,741 members of the AIADMK's general council submitted support to the Palaniswami-Panneerselvam faction, while the Sasikala-Dinakaran team could submit defect-free affidavits of support from only 145 members of the apex body of the party.

According to sources, the Election Commission has decided that the Palaniswami-Panneerselvam merged faction deserves the party symbol.

The OPS faction challenged Sasikala's appointment saying she did not fulfil the requirement of continuous/uninterrupted membership of the party for five years. In contrast, only 20 MLAs (18 disqualified), and three MPs each of the two Houses had backed the group led by V.K. Sasikala, the jailed former aide of late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.

For now, Mr. Palaniswami and Mr. Panneerselvam have proclaimed that they will function like a double-barrel gun.
