AAA: Premium Fuel Not Worth The Price

"Based on AAA's testing, vehicles that only recommend premium gasoline can't take full advantage of higher-octane fuel and, as a result, the benefit that comes from upgrading to premium gasoline may not offset its high cost", said John Nielsen, managing director of automotive engineering and fix for AAA, in a statement.

"It's still important to remember that if your vehicle requires the use of premium gasoline, that you should still use it", said Jenkins.

Previous year at this time, the average price of gas was $2.11 in Metro Richmond.

"Based on AAA's testing, vehicles that only recommend premium gasoline can't take full advantage of higher octane fuel and, as a result, the benefit that comes from upgrading to premium gasoline may not offset its high cost", Nielsen said.

AAA Northeast found in its weekly survey released Monday that the price of self-serve, regular is averaging $2.49 per gallon.

Most vehicles showed a modest improvement in fuel economy and performance.

Opportunity knocks, Rams don't answer against first-place Eagles
Through three quarters against the Rams, Wentz had thrown for 291 yards, 4 touchdowns and an interceptions. Wentz was hit hard as he scrambled into the end zone on a play that was called back because of holding.

Drivers who choose to use premium fuel should shop around for the best price.

"This becomes increasingly important as the difference between the cost of regular and premium gasoline grows", IHS Markit senior analyst Stephanie Brinley said. While the group's previous research determined there was no benefit to using premium gasoline in a vehicle created to operate on regular fuel, the latest study found that "some vehicles - those that recommend, but do not require premium gasoline - may see increased fuel economy and performance under certain driving conditions when using the higher-octane gasoline".

Because prices for premium vary greatly across the US, both AAA and GasBuddy urge drivers to shop around for the best prices.

Prices here in Colorado Springs are roughly $2.40 a gallon and the that lines up with the rest of the Front Range. Premium gasoline, that exclusive liquid reserved for only the choicest drivers and vehicles, may be a big waste of money for most drivers, the national autoclub says. It was only these states that saw prices rise, ruining an otherwise countrywide drop in gas prices.

"In Chicago, some gas stations are charging $1 per gallon more", DeHaan said. For this latest research, AAA partnered with the Automobile Club of Southern California's Automotive Research Center to determine what, if any, benefit premium gasoline offers vehicles that recommend, but do not require, the use of premium gasoline.

When in doubt about what kind of gas to buy, Cars.com and AAA agree the golden rule should be to always follow your manufacturer's recommendation.
