Christmas Day Mass at St. Charles

Christmas was celebrated Monday across Kashmir with religious fervour as special prayers were held for peace and brotherhood across the churches in the Valley.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan facilitated the Christian brethren a happy Christmas in a message on his official twitter account.

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi felicitated the Christian community from across the globe on Christmas, appreciating the efforts of Pakistan's Christian community for socio-economic development of their homeland.

Silent Monks performe a "vocal" Christmas music concert by "singing" Sing Halleluiah. In some of the churches, the services concluded with the distribution of cake and coffee.

Orthodox and Catholic attendees celebrated Christmas with separate ceremonies, during which they prayed for world peace.

Tunisia bans Emirates flights over women security measures
In Tunisia anger has been building after women said they had been banned at Tunis airport from boarding Emirates flights to Dubai. A date has not yet been set as to when Emirates will be allowed to resume operations to and from Tunisia.

Speaking on the occasion, Rev. Dr. K.A. William said, "The birth of Jesus is one of the important dates in human history as the eras are also termed with reference to his birth - Before Christ (BC) and AD (Anno Domini)".

Church members and the choir sang Christmas carols and hymns as part of Christmas Eve celebrations from 11 pm.

However, people missed "White Christmas" as there was no snowfall in the Valley. "Although we will be able to see snow at Gulmarg, but fresh snowfall on this day adds to the beauty of the festival", a group of tourists from Delhi said.

Hafeez said skiing and snowboarding championships would also be held during the winter season.

"We are now stepping up tourism promotion by visiting many cities across the country too for tourism seminars, road shows", he said. The Christian community also attended the special services on Sunday and visited their relatives and friends to exchange Christmas greetings.
