FBI investigated school shooter a year ago

San Juan County Sheriff Ken Christesen said the shooting was planned out Atchison, who disguised himself as a student to get into the school.

According to reports, William Atchison entered the Aztec High School around 9 AM local time, causing the school to be placed on lockdown. Authorities say William Atchison died in Friday's shooting.

Atchison lived in Aztec with his parents, officials said, KRQE reported.

Students Casey Jordan Marquez, 17, and Francisco "Paco" Fernandez, 18, were fatally shot Thursday morning just as classes were starting.

"The fact that you carry a gun into a school with multiple magazines and start shooting at people, that to me is pure evil", Martinez said.

Here's what we know about Atchison and the shooting so far.

Federal Bureau of Investigation officials at the conference said Atchison isn't a complete stranger to them, after having looked into some comments he made via an online gaming forum in early 2016.

"Go somewhere and gear up, then hold a class hostage and go apes-, then blow my brains out". Hunter Medina, a junior at Aztec High, said Paco was new to the school, that he came from Piedra Vista.

A 21-year-old gunman who disguised himself as a student to get into a New Mexico high school where he killed two students had caught the attention of USA investigators more than a year ago, authorities said Friday.

Police found a thumb drive with an apparent statement from the shooter.

Atchison went to a second-floor bathroom, where he was "preparing to confront students".

Due to Winter Storm Warning, Expect Delays in CCRTA Service
The winter storm warning , which was issued Friday, means severe winter weather conditions are occurring. In Maryland, the National Weather Service was predicting up to four inches of snow by late Saturday.

"That man stood up for me anytime a bully got near me", Iko Coghill, who went to elementary school with Fernandez, wrote on Facebook. He walked in on Atchison.

New Mexico State Police chief Pete Kassetas said it was "very obvious" Atchison wanted officials to find the thumb drive because it was on his body.

Custodian Thomas Hall pursued the shooter down the hallways, yelling for teachers to lock their doors.

The FBI says online comments made past year by a gunman who killed two students at a New Mexico high school had led them to conduct an investigation. Within minutes of opening fire, officials believe Atchinson killed himself.

Substitute teacher Kathleen Potter did not have the keys to lock the computer lab door.

So she took students into an office or storage area and barricaded the door with a couch. Atchison fired some shots at students hiding in a supply closet, but no one else was injured.

The FBI said Atchison made online comments a year ago that led them to conduct an investigation.

Someone reported a message he wrote on an online gaming site asking about cheap assault rifles for a mass shooting. They closed their brief investigation of him after determining no crime had been committed, and no specific threats made. Police say Atchison claimed he had made the post as an Internet troll. Last month, Atchinson legally bought the Glock pistol he used on Thursday, according to officials.

When searching Atchison's house after Thursday's shooting, police found a note that outlined his schedule for the day.

Fort Lewis College said its counseling center will be open Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m.to 5 p.m.to assist students.
