Liberia's president-elect vows to end corruption, says country is 'open for business'

- George Weah officially declared Liberia's President-elect.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to insulate itself from external interferences and to weed out all compromised officials, who could be used by undemocratic forces to try to subvert the will of the people in the 2019 general elections. "We have a lot to do to accelerate the construction of Africa's future".

Liberia, a nation founded by freed American slaves, is seeing its first democratic transfer of power in more than 70 years as Sirleaf, a Nobel Peace Prize victor, steps down.

The President of Sengal, Macky Sall, also congratulated Weah on Twitter and wished him "much success".

He will take office in January.

The clip was uploaded to Facebook shortly after it was announced the 51-year-old politician had won the election. His election success was noted with pride by former clubs Monaco, Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan.

Joseph Boakai in an address to the nation on Friday is offering to help Weah's new government if needed.

Weah was declared the victor of Liberia's presidential election run-off on Friday, the country's elections commission confirmed.

Weah, 51, had garnered 61% of valid votes cast from 98.1% of votes tallied.

"Pursuant to the authority vested in the commission by the constitution and the new electoral law of the Republic of Liberia and based on the result just read, I, acting on behalf of the Board of Commissioners, do hereby declare the presidential ticket of Senator George Weah and Jewel Howard Taylor as the victor of the December 26 presidential runoff election".

Senator George Manneh Weah, President-elect of the Republic of Liberia has praised President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and the global community for his ascendancy as president of Africa's oldest republic, Liberia, and also bragged of his government's commitment to continue the works of his precursor.
