Phoenix Officials Want Residents To Recycle Their Christmas Trees

Nobody is really sure when Fir trees were first used as Christmas trees and many early Christmas Trees seem to have been hung upside down from the ceiling using chains (hung from chandeliers/lighting hooks).

"Christmas tree recycling is another one of the many valuable community services the township offers to township residents", Schulte said.

Christmas is over - which means its time to start taking down those Christmas decorations.

There will be four drop-off locations for NHC residents.

The county also teams up with the city of Charlottesville, chipping trees collected through the city's curbside pick-up program.

Christmas trees will be accepted until January 31.

Trees that are kept too long have the potential to become fire hazards, so the Carroll-Columbiana-Harrison Environmental Group, based in those counties, shared a few tips to how to safely dispose of live trees after the holidays are over. All trees must be free of lights, tinsel, and other ornaments. If you couldn't afford a real plant, people made pyramids of woods and they would decorate to look like a tree with paper, apples and candles.

Locals can now drop off their trees at either the Central Landfill in Newark, or the Berlin, Pocomoke, or Snow Hill Homeowners Convenience Centers.
