Relative: Rep. Conyers won't seek re-election due to health

Conyers eventually acknowledged the settlement, but denied wrongdoing.

Conyers, 88, announced Tuesday morning during an interview on Praise 102.7 FM that he is retiring and is endorsing his son, John Conyers III, to replace him.

"I am retiring today", Conyers said from a hospital in MI. "He is going to retire", Ian Conyers told The New York Times. Another woman alleges she was sacked by Conyers after she rejected his advances and subsequently settled a wrongful dismissal claim with the congressman.

Gaddis also asked Conyers whether he believes the allegations that have been made against him will impact his legacy.

'The allegations against congressman Conyers as we have learned more since Sunday are serious, disappointing and very credible, ' said Pelosi, a California representative who notably did not call for Conyers to go during a Sunday appearance on NBC's 'Meet the Press'. "This too shall pass", he said, calling in from a local hospital.

John Conyers returned to Detroit from Washington last week and was hospitalized on Wednesday after complaining that he felt light-headed. "My legacy will continue through my children", he said.

He said he's endorsing his son, John Conyers III, to replace him in Congress. Conyers faced calls to resign following reports that he reached a $27,000 settlement with a former aide who said she was sacked for rejecting his sexual advances. Until Tuesday, he was the longest-serving current member of Congress.

A week after the report, second ex-staffer of the congressman also accused him of sexual harassment and several Congressional Black Caucus members urged him to resign.

No more birdies were forthcoming, however, and Fowler settled for a course-record 61 and an 18-under total of 270. Francesco Molinari (70) was ninth and Tiger Woods, (68) completed the Top-10 alongside Matt Kuchar (71).

She said in the affidavit she saw Conyers groping and stroking Brown's legs and the legs of other women in the office and that she saw Brown shortly after an alleged event in Chicago in 2005 where Brown said Conyers' propositioned her in a hotel room.

The House Ethics Committee is investigating allegations of harassment and inappropriate touching by women who once worked for Conyers, including claims by Marion Brown who could testify later this week before the committee.

Since the allegations, both House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and House Majority Leader Paul Ryan have called for Conyers to resign.

At least two other women who worked for him have accused him of sexual misconduct.

Republican congressman Joe Barton separately announced last week he would not seek re-election after a nude photograph of him taken while he was separated from his wife circulated online.

"I think there should be a complete disclosure and revealing to all the citizens in the country what federal legislatures are doing or not doing - and any cost that may have incurred as a result of that", Conyers said.

Conyers has already stepped down from his leadership position as ranking member on the House Judiciary Committee late last month.
