Computer outage at customs causes major travel headache at JFK Airport

"U.S. Customs and Border Protection experienced a temporary outage with its processing systems at various airports today beginning at 7:30 pm (EST) and ending approximately 9:30 pm (EST)".

Passport systems in the United States are back online after a two-hour outage caused disruptions in some of the major airports on the New Year's Day.

A passenger jet takes off from San Diego International Airport.

The outage is affecting other airports across the county, according to an official familiar with the situation. "Travellers at some ports of entry experienced longer than usual wait times as CBP officers processed travellers as quickly as possible while maintaining the highest levels of security", it said in a statement.

Doctors all set to go on 12-hour strike
Dr Kumar said a six-month bridge course for AYUSH professionals can not be equated to four years of medical education. IMA has been strongly opposing the bill, saying it will "cripple" the functioning of medical professionals.

Photos posted on social networks by stranded passengers showed long lines at New York's JFK and Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson. Addressing security concerns, the US Customs and Borders Protection said that there was no indication that the service disruption was malicious in nature.

A few minutes later, another tweet said the customs processing issue was resolved.

CBP officers continued to process worldwide passengers using alternative procedures, but the agency acknowledged that travelers at some ports of entry experienced longer than usual wait times.

"Just landed back in the USA and I'm stuck in the customs line because the border patrol servers are down nationwide", wrote Pearse Adams.
