Fired Engineer Says Google Discriminated Based on His 'Male Gender,' 'Caucasian Race'

Last August, Google fired engineer James Damore for penning a memo (more of a 3,300-word screeching manifesto) that argued against workplace diversity, which he claimed was damaging to political conservatives, who he said are consequently afraid to speak their minds. Back in August, Google CEO Sundar Pichai addressed the controversy, which questioned the biological ability of women workers in technology, directly in a memo to employees. Damore was quickly fired.

"Google's management goes to extreme - and illegal - lengths to encourage hiring managers to take protected categories such as race and/or gender into consideration as determinative hiring factors, to the detriment of Caucasian and male employees and potential employees at Google", it says.

The suit, filed in Santa Clara, California, alleged discrimination by Google against men, people of the "Caucasian race", and people with perceived conservative political views.

The lawsuit is being filed by Dhillon Law Group, and former Google engineer David Gudeman is also a member of the suit. The suit alleges that Google's diversity efforts are unlawful, citing "illegal hiring quotas to fill its desired percentages of women and favored minority candidates" as an example.

They also found a business card for the National Socialist Movement, which civil rights groups say is a neo-Nazi organization. Charles where a man pointed a gun at a black woman for no apparent reason while driving on Interstate 70, Czaplewski said.

Damore was sacked last summer after he wrote a memo criticizing Google for pushing mentoring and diversity programs and for "alienating conservatives".

"We were sort of brainwashed to believe that this was the natural course of things", he said.

Months later, Damore has now decided that it was unfair for Google to fire him for his sexist rhetoric, so he's suing them for ... discrimination against white males.

The lengthy complaint totals some 62 pages and contains in excess of 100 additional exhibits and appendices, most of which are comprised of memes or social media posts made by Google employees.
