Meryl Streep to star in Big Little Lies season 2

Meryl Streep is joining Big Little Lies season 2 as a series regular, and her arrival in Monterey, California will definitely send the mothers of Otter Bay Elementary School into a frenzy. Much of the main cast from the first season is returning, including Oscar winners Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon.

The Oscar-winning actress will play Mary Louise Wright, the mom of Perry Wright (played by Alexander Skarsgård in the first season). David E. Kelley, who wrote and executive produced Season 1, will return in the same roles for Season 1. Mary Louise drops by Monterey because she's concerned about the well-being of her grandchildren after her son's death. Earlier this week, Streep received an Oscar nomination for her role in Steven Spielberg's "The Post".

Streep, who won acting Emmys for the miniseries "Holocaust" (19798) and "Angels in America" (2003), has appeared as a guest in episodes of Showtime's "Web Therapy" in 2012 and did voices for an episode each of "King of the Hill" and "The Simpsons" in the 1990s.

Fans of Big Little Lies should vividly recall that Skarsgard's Perry was a violent and abusive husband to his wife Celeste (Nicole Kidman) before in a spur of the moment decision, the five central women covered up how Bonnie Carlson (Zoe Kravitz) killed him in an attempt to save Celeste from Perry's savage beatings. Kidman, 50, welcomed Streep to the cast via Instagram later on Wednesday.

But he stressed the pro-European credentials of the SPD and said the coalition blueprint showed "true European ambition". Previous attempts by the chancellor to join with other German political parties in a governing coalition failed.

"Big Little Lies" just keeps getting bigger.

Last year, Moriarty confirmed she was open to working on a second season of the TV show but not a second novel. Andrea Arnold will direct all seven episodes.

Skarsgard, who has scored an Emmy, a Golden Globe and, as of last night, a SAG Award for his portrayal of Perry, called Big Little Lies the "greatest experience of my career" during his Globes acceptance speech.
