Apple rolls out iOS 11.3 beta 2 with new 'Battery Health' feature

Now, thanks to iOS 11.3 developer beta 2, we have an idea on how the much-anticipated battery setting will look like when it rolls out.

In the latest Beta build of iOS 11.3, Apple has released the feature. If you are facing any issue related to the battery performance or anything on your iPhone, you can simply go ahead and make use of this management section on the iOS device.

The iPhone maker had said it introduced the performance management feature on iPhones where the battery had decayed and could result in unexpected shutdowns.

"Your battery is now supporting normal peak performance" under Peak Performance Capability. This feature is enabled only after an unexpected shutdown first occurs on a device with a battery that has diminished ability to deliver maximum instantaneous power.

Apple was recently in the news for the wrong reasons, and also faced lawsuits for throttling performance on older iPhones. An important thing to point out here is that when users disable power management, there's no option to turn it on.

BlitzBoks face Fiji in Cup Final
Four minutes later, Naduva, the man in the only green boots in the final, ran around the Blitzboke defence to level scores 5-all. As it turned out that was Australia's final score in the match even though they started the second half with a one-man advantage.

Apple said that with time, iPhone batteries become weak, hence, it slows down the CPU speed in order to elongate the battery life. If it can't detect your battery status, it will also warn you to replace your battery at an authorised service provider.

Users expressed outrage over the company's under-the-table throttling practices, firstly because Apple didn't explicitly inform customers that this would happen eventually, and because a large portion of affected users claim that Apple may be doing this to force users into upgrading to the newest iPhone model. Apple CEO Tim Cook says that was never the motive, though the move may have forced users to buy new iPhones.

Battery health degraded: "Your battery's health is significantly degraded". The tech giant then came out and admitted that it was slowing down devices and launched an offer that provided replacement batteries at a discounted rate. Do iPhone 8, 8 Plus, or iPhone X users need to worry about throttling in the future?

Battery health unknown: "This iPhone is unable to determine battery health".

Apple has explained further how this performance management feature works. An iPhone with an older battery with more discharged charge cycles will display a lower percentage, indicating it can't be used as long. "More about service options..." It appears the newer models will indeed handle aging batteries and peak workloads better than their predecessors, thanks to special hardware, but exactly how is unclear. This was later fixed in the iOS 11.1.2 update.
