First confirmed pediatric flu death in MI

Meanwhile in America, this current flu season is turning out to be a rough one.

With the worst influenza outbreak across the United States in more than a decade, researchers are looking for new and innovative ways to protect against the flu.

Due to the severity of the flu cases this season, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently released an update to inform others on the necessary precautions they may want to take once they have contracted the flu.

The main issue related to such is that despite all attempts made by health authorities, the number of people vaccinating has declined, increasing gradually the number of unprotected and vulnerable people each year.

"These numbers under score how infectious influenza really is", said Dr. Amesh Adalja, a senior scholar at Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security and a Pittsburgh physician. Symptoms of the flu can range from a runny nose, cough, sore throat, body aches, fever, fatigue and in some cases vomiting as well as diarrhea.

The CDC's summary also reports that 17 children have died from the flu in this latest reporting period, but noted that one fatality took place in the 2015-16 reporting period. The so-called Spanish flu is the benchmark against which all other pandemics are measured.

"Local public health is always the backup", she said. "You never expect this to happen to you".

US Treasury yields slip from highs as traders brace for stock sell-off
Analysts are attributing this fall to rising global bond yields, which have unsettled investors and central banks the world over. Friday's markets went tumbling on good economic news as the Labor Department reported a 2.9 percent increase in hourly earnings.

The Weatherford Independent School District, where Holland taught second grade at Bose Ikard Elementary, notified parents of Holland's death in a letter, stating that "today is a hard day at the campus".

Tony Simmons, the school board vice president explained, "Our hospitals are filled".

Some people, especially young children and people with weakened immune systems, might be able to infect others for an even longer time.

"If you're exposed to germs throughout the day, and if your body is not recharged, you're more likely to get sick", said Chris Brantner, a certified sleep coach. It's why authorities are still pushing the vaccine, even though it's no guarantee. It means that it reduces your chance of getting the flu by one-third.

Despite the concerns about the vaccine, Ferris highly recommends getting the vaccine.

Wichita schools reported a spike in illnesses in their students, though it's almost impossible to tell how many students specifically caught the flu this year, spokeswoman Susan Arensman previously told The Eagle. For now, however, there is little alternative to vaccination, frequent hand-washing and discreet sneezes.
