JOAQUIN PHOENIX 'Agrees' To Be Newest JOKER in Origin Movie

Warner Bros. has commissioned Todd Phillips (The Hangover trilogy, Old School) to create a Joker origin movie, which will reportedly by unattached to the continuity of the DC movie universe, including the maligned Suicide Squad franchise. Phillips will direct as well as co-write the film with Scott Silver.

People weren't necessarily thrilled to hear that the Joker is getting a standalone movie, but fans can rest assured that the supervillain will be played by a talented actor.

The film will reportedly take place in an '80s, gritty version of Gotham City and explore how The Joker became a criminal mastermind.

Phoenix is one of the most talented actors working today and immediately brings a certain amount of intrigue to this wild idea.

Ozone layer keeps thinning out despite decades of protection
New research indicates that the ozone layer , which wraps around the entire Earth, is thinning over non-polar areas. In 1987, the Montreal Protocol helped to phase-out of CFCs and that was the first sign of recovery of the layer.

The movie would fall under a yet-to-be-announced new banner of DC Comics, which would give the studio the opportunity to expand the canon of the iconic comic-book characters with unique story angles that aren't included in its current cinematic universe.

The Joker standalone movie is not a part of the DCEU slate of films, and Jared Leto is still set to play the Joker in the DCEU with his next appearance looking likely for Suicide Squad 2. For his work as an actor, Phoenix has received a Grammy Award, a Golden Globe Award, and has three Academy Award and British Academy Film Award nominations.

Phoenix was approached by Warner star as Lex Author in the DCEU's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, a role he passed on. However, WB has not confirmed it as such, and there was once a time when Phoenix was in talks to play Marvel Studios' Doctor Strange, so don't take it as a done deal.
