More cold, wintry precipitation could be expected this weekend

Yet another wave of winter weather is expected to roll through southwestern IL and central Missouri this weekend.

As we fall below freezing along the western fringes of the ArkLaTex overnight, drizzle and rain may briefly change into freezing drizzle/rain. "Widespread heavy rainfall" will begin Saturday evening and into Sunday, according to the National Weather Service. One to two inches of snow is possible along and north west of a Lafayette to Peru line.

Be sure to monitor the latest forecast and updates to the Winter Weather Advisories issued for our area.

THIS AFTERNOON: Areas of fog and chilly with a chance of rain, drizzle, some freezing rain/drizzle possible. I am bracketing the hours between 6am and 10am for the highest probability of freezing rain.

Olympic team's chefs mistakenly order 15000 eggs
Twitter users had fun making puns about the eggs and speculating about how they might get used. The chefs blamed a translation error, but it looks as if a typo might also be at fault.

"Sunday may turn out to be a complete washout", with 1 to 2 inches of rain, Hoffman said. TV-13 meteorologist Doug Meyers says the best chance of accumulating snow would be Saturday night.

Wednesday: Cloudy, high of 67 and 30 percent chance of rain during the day; 20 percent chance of rain, cloudy and a low of 55 at night. For most of the viewing area, today will just be cloudy and chilly with highs in the mid 30s.

It should be partly sunny Monday into Tuesday, but rain could return Tuesday afternoon, the weather service said.

Lower-end snow ratios are often found in situations where temperatures are marginal for snow either aloft or near the surface.
