Asus Zenfone 5 Lite Goes Official with Four Cameras & Face Unlock

Hot on the heels of Samsung and Sony, Asus just took the wraps off a Snapdragon 845 mobile powerhouse at MWC 2018 as well, dubbing it ZenFone 5Z.

The ZenFone 5 will also have a 6.2-inch display with a 19:9 aspect ratio. All we know is that they'll arrive at some point this year. It runs Android Nougat-based ZenUI 4.0.

The Zenfone 5Z on the other hand is powered by the Snapdragon 845, the current Qualcomm champion. The device has an improved Adreno 630 GPU for better graphical performance. There's a Zenfone 5 Lite, as the name suggests, is a low-end variant, and then there are Zenfone 5 and Zenfone 5S - the ultimate flagships by the Taiwanese smartphone maker. The storage can be further expanded up to 2TB via microSD card.

On the camera front, the Asus ZenFone 5Z sports a dual rear cameras at the back panel. It does, however, stand out by having two selfie cameras (one of which has a 20-megapixel resolution), in addition to the two cameras on the back. Asus has also bundled a nifty charging feature which will be a boon for people who plug their phones overnight. The other two phones feature an 8MP sensor around front. The face unlock feature, however, was quite inconsistent and didn't work unless we stared at it from a specific angle.

The device features nearly all types of Connectivity options such as 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth v5.0, NFC, GPS/ A-GPS, FM radio, USB Type-C, and 3.5mm headphone jack. It packs 3300 mAh battery with ASUS BoostMaster fast charging and AI charging. The phone is backed by a 3300mAh battery. At the launch event, Asus had just revealed the price of the 4GB RAM of the ZenFone 5Z which comes around Euro 479, roughly translating to Rs 38,400.

Asus ZenFone 5 is the main smartphone of the entire Asus ZenFone 5 series smartphone. Rest of everything stays the same as of Zenfone 5Z. You're also getting a USB-C port, Android 8.0 Oreo with Asus' skin on top, a headphone jack (possibly the only non-Apple-like aspect of the device), and high-res audio support, but only on the 5Z. These devices have one of three combinations of RAM and internal storage: 2GB/16GB, 2GB/32GB, or 3GB/32GB.

The Zenfone 5 and Zenfone 5Z are almost identical devices that differ only in processor and storage configuration.

The Asus Zenfone 5 and 5Z are the smartphones which come with the notch design just like the iPhone X. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor, paired with 4GB/6GB of RAM. Pricing details for the Zenfone 5 and the Zenfone 5 Lite has not been revealed yet. There is another version also with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. The Primary Camera on the device comes with 16 Megapixel + 8 Megapixel sensors with a variety of photo capturing modes. According to the company, each camera works independently every time for ideal selfies, wefies, landscapes, portraits or groups shots. The front-facing camera is of 8-megapixel with f/2.0 aperture and 84-degree field of view for wider selfies. The front camera specifications can vary as per region, Asus added. Oddly ASUS has not yet given MP size on the second of each of these camera combinations. They can record full HD videos as well.

However, it's unclear why the "notch" is present, as although the Zenfone 5 and 5Z have a Face Unlock option, this is by no means as advanced as the Face ID system on the iPhone X. So much so, that Asus has included a fingerprint sensor as back up.

Finally, Asus says both the phones have artificial intelligence capabilities, but they're a little vague.
