Collin Sexton Keeps Alabama's NCAA Tournament Hopes Alive

Alabama's Collin Sexton celebrates after a teammate's basket during the second half in an NCAA college basketball game against Texas A&M at the Southeastern Conference tournament Thursday, March 8, 2018, in St. Louis. The Tide were able to advance in the SEC Tournament after an fantastic finish that included a buzzer beater by freshman star Collin Sexton.

Tyler Davis has averaged 16.0 points, 8.4 rebounds and 1.2 blocks over the last five games for Texas A&M.

Alabama's defense was also key late in the game. Sexton then got the ball in his hands via an inbound pass and sprinted down the court and swooshed a game-winning floater just before the buzzer to give the Crimson Tide the 71-70 win.

Assuming the Ags make the NCAA Tournament, and most projections before the loss had them squarely in it, they will need Starks to continue to play with confidence as he has since stepping into the starting lineup.

However, Starks would answer Sexton yet again.

There was plenty to take away from the game, not the least of which was their freshman point guard stepping up in a big way.

Not having Starks was costly for the Aggies, who have very thin point guard depth after losing Duane Wilson to injury and J.J. Caldwell to dismissal earlier in the season. Davis picked up his fourth foul with 12:31 to go in the game, and was subbed out with 12:31 remaining in the game.

Alabama, which had lost five straight games coming into the tournament, led by as many as 12 in the second half, but 17 turnovers kept the Tide from pulling away.

Now it's on to Auburn for Alabama, a rivalry game with big stakes. Vegas is known to set the total high when the Crimson Tide are involved, as 69.0 percent of their games have ended under the O/U total.
