In health outcomes, the highest-ranking counties in descending order are Chester, Centre, Union, Montgomery, Butler, Cumberland, Bucks, Lancaster, Franklin and Adams.
Taking all those factors into account, Wyandotte County ranked No. 99 out of the 103 Kansas counties measured (two counties were not included).
The Buncombe County Family Justice Center (FJC) is an example of a community partnership that has been instrumental in The Rankings.
Excellent clinical care, a wealth of opportunities for physical activity, and educational achievement helped the county lead the way in North Carolina, ranking 14th in the state for overall health outcomes, an 11-point gain over previous year, and 3rd overall in health factors that predict a community's overall health moving forward. Racine was No. 61 and 62 for health outcomes and factors, respectively, while Kenosha came in at No. 59 and 66.
While Milwaukee County's health behaviors largely match those of the state as a whole, there were notable differences in its rates of sexually transmitted infection and teen pregnancy. "We can see there are meaningful gaps that exist not only by place but also by race", said Karen Odegaard, community coach with the county rankings team. "So it's all about getting everyone involved in recognizing everyone has a role to play in improving their communities".
Analyzing all of North Carolina's 100 counties shows a clear correlation between median household income and health outcomes. She says the goal is to use the data to drive changes to build a culture of health.
