Delhi Budget 2018-19: Government allocates Rs 14000 crores for education

A day after Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government presented the Delhi Economic Survey 2017-18, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Thursday announced the Delhi government's budget for the financial year 2018-19.

The DPCC president Ajay Maken said the Delhi Government, under the Chief Ministership of Sheila Dikshit, had done a remarkable work for the development of Delhi in 15 years, but the AAP Government has ruined those works in three years.

Sisodia announced 50 per cent concession in registration of CNG cars, and said solar panels will be installed over 16 km cycle track.

A subsidy of up to Rs 1 lakh will be given to industries in approved industrial areas, to switch to piped natural gas from existing polluting fuels.

The government also gave Rs 6,903 crore to the local bodies, which is 13 per cent of the total budget and 9.88 per cent higher over 2017-18's allocations.

For the 2018-19 fiscal, Mr. Sisodia said, the government targeted the time-bound induction of 1,000 buses, each, for the DTC, under the cluster scheme and the creation of a new fleet of electric buses. He said the number of average students in technical institutions which used to be 5000 had now come down to 3718, and the number has slumped from 760 to 441 in polytechnics and from 665 to 341 at the World Skill Centre.

In health sector, Rs 403 crore was allocated for Mohalla Clinics and Polyclinics and Rs 20 crore for free diagnostic tests at Delhi Government hospitals.

The state finance minister, Manish Sisodia, said, "Despite demonetisation and GST, Delhi's economy is growing", adding that the government allocates Rs 1,000 crore for repairing small roads of the municipal corporations.

For the fix and maintenance of smaller roads owned by the municipal corporations of the city, the government has assigned Rs 100 crore for the plan.

With a focus on green economy and tackling pollution levels in the national capital, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi on Thursday presented a Rs53,000 crore annual budget.

The study will be a part of a 26-point programme to control pollution in Delhi. Moreover, around 200-250 cameras will be installed to live-stream the classes so that the parents can watch their children.
