Man United's Scott McTominay chooses Scotland over England

Joey Barton, speaking on talkSPORT this morning, has reacted to McTominay's decision to represent Scotland and England - and his comments are guaranteed to cause quite a stir.

McTominay may have been included in Southgate's squad for this summer's World Cup finals in Russian Federation had he chosen to represent England. He's a great guy, and he gets the best out of players.

McTominay qualifies for Scotland through his grandparents, but had resisted attempts to persuade him to pledge his allegiance to the Scots, preferring instead to focus on establishing himself in the senior squad at Old Trafford.

"Maybe in the United team, (McTominay's) not the one that's looked for to be creating and scoring goals and you don't want that responsibility to fall on him. It's a bit of both - I want them both to do well".

McLeish is expected to now include the 21-year-old in his squad for the friendly double-header against Costa Rica and Hungary at the end of March. He's a fantastic young player and it's great for us as a country.

Turkey considers the YPG a terrorist group and says YPG is an extension of the Kurdistan Workers' Party ( PKK ). They are fighting a Turkish military offensive that was launched to clear Kurdish groups from Afrin.

The United manager added: "The kid is very "feet on the ground", he's very calm, so I think he passed some important tests not by the football point of view but the mental point of view - maturity, calm play against champions, play knockout in the Champions League, two tests by the mental approach".

"He's somebody who is going to play for the team, he's got the superstars around him and sometimes you need somebody to do that extra bit of work and be a real team player".

Having not qualified for a major tournament since the 1998 World Cup, there is a desperation among Scotland fans for things to improve as soon as possible.

"Going forward, it's up to Alex McLeish, I've not spoken to him yet but I'm sure I will do in the near future and see what the plans are".
