Police warned the public not to a confront a 19-year-old man suspected of fatally shooting two people on Friday at a Central Michigan University residence hall, saying he is considered unsafe and likely still in the area.

"I had a class at 10 o'clock and I got a call at 9:30 that woke me up saying there was a report of shots being fired, then I got called later at like 10 saying that there was confirmed shots, that the school was going into lockdown", he said. Sources told the Free Press that the victims are believed to be the shooter's parents.

Staff and students who were still on campus Friday were sheltering in place all over.

The city of Mount Pleasant, where the university is located, released a photo of Davis.

Campus police were investigating the incident along with local and state police, according to university officials.

Pleasant police confirmed that they had contact with Davis on Thursday evening related to some kind of unsafe drug interaction and medical situation.

The hospital has no record of Davis being a patient, Rachel Blizzard, a spokeswoman, said in an email.

The suspect has been identified as James Eric Davis, Jr. He shot and killed his parents.

Davis is considered armed and risky.

Central Michigan University police report that the two deceased individuals were not students.

Police asked for the public's help in finding Davis. She says it's "scary thinking about how easy a shooter can come into a college campus anywhere". "There's so much easy access", Byron said.

Mt. Pleasant Police are warning people not to approach the suspect if they see him. He told her Davis Jr. was from the Plainfield, Illinois.

A regard of Davis's twitter feed revealed innocuous retweets, save for a retweet from February 14, Valentine's Day which showed a black man waving with a gun, with the quote, 'My mood all day'. He is considered armed & unsafe.

The Western Michigan at Central Michigan men's basketball game scheduled for this evening has been postponed, CMU Associate Vice President and Director of Athletics Michael Alford said. "City buildings are locked down and not accessible to the general public".

The search was focused on Mount Pleasant neighborhoods near campus.
