Toronto police find 7th victim in serial killer case

McArthur, a 66-year-old self-employed landscaper, is now charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of six men who had disappeared from or had ties to Toronto's gay village.

McArthur, a grandfather and former mall Santa Claus, has not entered a plea.

The photograph was released as a last resort, he said, after all other methods of identifying the man were exhausted.

He also said five of the six charges laid against the 66-year old are not related to the remains found.

Numerous other alleged victims have been darker skinned and of South Asian or Middle Eastern descent who frequented the "Gay Village" area of Toronto.

Officials would not say how they obtained the picture but say it has been altered slightly to make the photograph clear and to remove everything in the background. Later that month, McArthur was charged with the first-degree murder of Majeed Kayhan, Soroush Mahmudi, and Dean Lisowick.

"We have recovered the remains of at least seven individuals from the planters seized at the (east side Toronto) home", lead investigator Sergeant Hank Idsinga told a press conference.

Police identified three sets of remains that were found in large planters at a home where McArthur did gardening work in Toronto as those of Kinsman, Mahmudi, Navaratnam.

"As I have stated before, these remains are of individuals who have been dismembered", said Idsinga.

Then, in an act that brought home the danger of the situation, her daughter texted, "omg she's putting desk in front of the door". But a spokesman says apparently the teacher DIDN'T intend to harm any students. "There is a barricaded subject in a classroom".

Det. -Sgt. Hank Idsinga and Dr. Michael Pollanen, Ontario's Chief Forensic Pathologist, will be providing an update on the case at 10:30 a.m.

Idsinga said police are still investigating the case and looking for more possible victims, including in cold cases.

McArthur's earliest known victim, for example, was first reported missing in 2010.

Detectives are looking at numerous unsolved missing persons cases in the area to see if they could be connected to McArthur. As per his sentence, McArthur was ordered to stay away from the part of Toronto that included the Gay Village. Searches have been carried out at another 30 sites connected to McArthur and hundreds of missing persons cases dating back decades are also being re-examined.

An immigrant from Afghanistan who frequented bars in the Gay Village near Church and Wellesley Streets.

Last seen April 14, 2017 in the Yonge and Bloor area.

His relationship with McArthur is unclear. This humanitarian objective of determining who went missing and identifying their bodies is an important application of forensic science and medicine.

Police believe he was murdered between May 2016 and July 2017.

Friends begin posting his image in the area and surrounding neighborhoods soon after he disappeared.
