Warner, de Kock engage in dressing room altercation

Warner, de Kock engage in dressing room altercation

Video footage emerged showing Warner trying to confront wicketkeeper-batsman De Kock in the pavillion as the players returned to their dressing rooms at tea on the fourth day.

Proteas team manager Mohammed Moosajee suggested Warner got personal in his sledging and "whatever happens out on the field, you giving something you've got to take it".

Australian captain Steve Smith confirmed after the match that de Kock was getting "quite personal" with Warner and laid the blame of the incident at his feet. "As far as I'm aware, we didn't get personal towards Quinton", Australia captain Steve Smith told a news conference.

The CCTV footage shows Warner being restrained by teammates Usman Khawaja and Nathan Lyon before being persuaded to go into the dressing room by Smith.

Warner's incredible off-field confrontation with Quinton de Kock has overshadowed Australia's series-opening victory in Durban, with the ill feeling set to continue when the second Test starts in Port Elizabeth on Friday.

Du Plessis reiterated that he expects to receive verbal comments from Australia when he is batting, and went so far as to say that he would be "disappointed" if it didn't happen.

Australia needed just 22 balls and 20 minutes of play on the fifth day at Kingsmead to secure a 118-run triumph over South Africa in the opener of their four-Test series, here Monday.

Fall of wickets: 1-29 (Elgar), 2-39 (Amla), 3-39 (De Villiers), 4-49 (Du Plessis), 5-136 (De Bruyn), 6-283 (Markram), 7-290 (Philander), 8-290 (Maharaj), 9-290 (Rabada), 10-298 (De Kock).

South Africa fought back in the second half of the match, bowling with more goal to bowl out the tourists for 227, then recovering from a nightmare start to their second innings, largely through Markram, who made 143, and De Kock.

"I think there's always a line that you've got to be careful you don't cross".

David Warner came under scrutiny after the ugly run-in with Quinton de Kock.

"What was said and done during that interval was regrettable on both sides", Smith said.

The less interest you take in Warner the better.

Asked what could be done to avoid such incidences in future, du Plessis suggested that the umpires need to prevent altercations from becoming too heated. Just yesterday, he was seen showering Aiden Markram with a long emotionally-charged spray of words after he was on the non-striker's end when AB de Villiers was run out for a duck.

The Australians had earlier been criticized for their ebullient celebration of the dramatic run-out of Proteas' star batsman AB de Villiers.

"That's the way we play our best cricket, when we're aggressive and in a fight together and hunting in a pack". This was the third-highest score by a South Africa batsman in the fourth innings of a Test, and the second highest by any batsman when chasing in South Africa since their readmission.
