Deposition of Bacteria and Bacterial Spores by Bathroom Hot Air Hand Dryers

Researchers in CT say using hand dryers can blow bacteria throughout bathroom surfaces and your hands. They scanned the areas for a strain of Bacillus subtilis, or PS533, that was engineered in a nearby laboratory, along with other bacterial colonies. In fact, hand dryers are spreading something disgusting right onto you: fecal particles.

Regardless, as Newsweek reported, study author Peter Setlow prefers paper towels, which are now stocked at all 36 bathrooms used in the study. What's more, the inside of the dryer nozzles themselves had "minimal bacterial levels". How many bacteria in the apparatus that the researchers suggest to wipe his hands with a towel, reports the Chronicle.info with reference to the news of Yu. Hand dryers, they added, could be one way such bacteria had seeped through the building.

The scientists also explored the effectiveness of using high-efficiency particulate air filters with the hand dryers. The study by researchers at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine appeared in the latest issue of the journal Applied And Environmental Microbiology.

Man gets 10-yr RI for sexual assault on minor girl
Police registered a case of sexual assault under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) against the man. Carlos Harper, 40, is said to have made the comment after lunging at the woman as she undressed to take a shower on Monday.

What's unclear, they admit, is just why the air-blasted plates showed so many more spores. Convection created by a hand dryer's air streams, for example, might pull in unfiltered bathroom air. Scientists set off hand dryers in the bathrooms and placed a special plate just beneath them for 30 seconds.

Using a HEPA filter on the hand dryers reduced the bacteria by 75 percent, the study showed.

For now, Setlow is sticking to paper towels-as is the University of CT, which has added them to all 36 bathrooms surveyed in the study.
