Donald Trump 'really wants to meet the Queen' during United Kingdom visit

The July trip will purportedly be a level below an official state visit, however, Trump is still set to meet with the Queen and British Prime Minister Theresa May while he's there. TIME reports that it won't be happening, while BBC says it is "likely" to happen - and that if they do meet, it will either be at Buckingham Palace or Windsor Castle.

The US president has also maintained an ongoing feud with London Mayor Sadiq Khan, who in turn has called for protests to be held should Trump visit the United Kingdom capital. Within hours of the announcement, more than 100,000 Facebook users signalled their interest in "Protest Trump's visit", a demonstration organised by journalist Owen Jones.

Trump's statement further irritated London, as many people and government officials asked May to withdraw her invitation to Trump to pay a state visit.

In an interview with LBC radio Mr Johnson said that Mr Trump was "thick-skinned" enough to deal with any protests and suggested that he might be able to win over critics such as London Mayor Sadiq Khan and Commons Speaker John Bercow.

Maz Saleem, from Stand Up to Trump, said: "Donald Trump is an open racist and sexist, a volatile and risky character who seems set on taking the West into further wars".

"If he comes to London, President Trump will experience an open and diverse city that has always chosen unity over division and hope over fear", Khan, the first Muslim mayor of a major Western capital, said on Thursday.

His last trip came during the presidential campaign in June 2016, when he went to one of his golf resorts. "You can really see it from an American perspective; maybe even clearer than you can see it here".

Mr Trump cancelled a planned trip to London to open the new USA embassy earlier this year, complaining the move south of the Thames had been a "bad deal".

"He's going to get a lot of criticism".
