Queen Elizabeth's husband Prince Philip recovering after hip surgery

The royal residence said Prince Philip had the "successful hip replacement operation" at King Edward VII's Hospital in central London, which often treats members of Britain's royal family.

The Queen and Prince Philip celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary last November.

"The Duke of Edinburgh has undergone a successful hip replacement operation". It read, 'His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh was admitted to King Edward VII Hospital in London this afternoon, for planned surgery on his hip which will take place tomorrow'.

Buckingham Palace said the surgery went well and that he is "progressing satisfactorily at this early stage" while staying in "good spirits", local news outlets reported.

It is understood, however, that The Queen's husband will be operated on while he is under a general anaesthetic.

On Sunday, he was absent from the Easter service attended by the Queen and other members of the royal family at St. George's Chapel in Windsor - also the venue for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding on May 19.

The first stage is due to come online in 2023, the 100th anniversary of modern Turkey's founding, and be completed entirely in 2026.

Philip has reportedly experienced heart problems in the past.

Queen Elizabeth II's 96-year-old husband Prince Philip successfully underwent hip surgery on Wednesday at a private hospital in London and is in "good spirits" recovering, Buckingham Palace said in a statement.

He did not accompany Elizabeth to a church service on Maundy Thursday because of the hip problem, a royal source said last week.

The duke stepped down from his public duties last summer, but on occasion does attend events with the Queen.

Prince Philip has been in pain for over a month now and has been forced to cancel a number of rare public engagements.
