Russell Westbrook's teammates were definitely helping him get his triple-double record

Last year, Russell Westbrook earned an MVP for becoming the second player in National Basketball Association history to average a triple-double over an entire season.

After securing 38 rebounds in his final two games, Russell Westbrook became the first player in National Basketball Association history to average a triple-double in back-to-back seasons. Tonight, Westbrook sealed up a second consecutive season of averaging a triple-double, an achievement that sports fans will be discussing for decades to come. He had five rebounds in the first 2:42 of the third quarter to reach his goal, and the crowd gave him a standing ovation.

To accomplish the feat, Westbrook needed to grab 34 rebounds in the final two games of the season - a tall order for a point guard.

Westbrook had called out critics of his stat-chasing before the game on Wednesday, arguing that grabbing 15 or 20 rebounds is a hard task in the National Basketball Association regardless of circumstances.

This one is a little different than last year's, but the accomplishment is still noteworthy.

OKC won just one more game than previous year, although it moved up to the fourth seed in the West playoffs.

He barely even tried to score any points against the Grizzlies.

George made 13 of 20 shots, including eight of 14 three-pointers. You get numbers on a bad team or in a blowout game or whatever it is, but he shows the consistency every single night, going out and performing at a high level.

Grizzlies end the year with a record of 22-60. Colin thinks the voters should just admit they prefer the shiny new toy and stop trying to justify changing their criteria from season to season. Now Westbrook has become the first player to do so since ... past year.

He finished with an average of 25.4 points, 10.3 assists and 10.5 rebounds. It just so happened that they played well as well.

As Westbrook's motto says, "Why Not?"

"He's just such an unselfish, unbelievable guy, and somebody I always looked up to since I been here", Westbrook said of Collison.

On this night, he went for a career-high 36 points - the most ever by a Grizzlies rookie in the Memphis era.

"It's tough, but we're in a great part of the season right now", George said.
