Would Israel Attack S-300 Air Defenses in Syria?

Inspectors from the Organisation of the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons collected samples on Wednesday from a new location in the Syrian town of Douma, their second visit to the area since it was hit.

The recent recapture of Douma, a remnant rebel bastion east of Damascus, by forces of Syrian President Bashar Assad, led to scattered reunions.

"The reconnaissance and air defense systems' recording data we have obtained, the work at the scene and polls of eye-witnesses show that the Pantsyr, Osa, Strela-10, Buk, Kvadrat and S-125 surface-to-air missile systems protecting the Syrian capital and the nearby Duvali, Dumayr, Bley and Mezze airfields of the Syrian Air Force destroyed 46 cruise missiles", the Russian General Staff's Main Operations Department chief Colonel-General Sergei Rudskoi said on Wednesday.

A Russian military official announced Wednesday that the OPCW found no evidence of chemical weapons at the Brzeh Research Center. Syria, which destroyed all of its chemical stockpiles in 2013 and 2014 under worldwide supervision, has denied the claims, while Moscow provided evidence that the Douma attack was actually fabricated.

An administration official confirms to CNN that the flights took place and the USA and Israel are both concerned the cargo could potentially include weapons that could eventually be used to threaten Israel.

A spokesperson for the Russian mission said the Russian and Syrian representatives would hold a news briefing for members of the organization on April 26 where they would speak about the alleged Douma incident.

It was unclear who Russian Federation planned to present, but the OPCW said they have not been interviewed by investigators.

Also, the Pentagon says Syria fired 40 interceptors, meaning it's virtually impossible that 71 missiles were downed, as it takes at least one interceptor to down a missile.

The sum committed at a two-day conference in Brussels was less than half of the $9 billion the United Nations says is needed this year to help those in need inside Syria and living as refugees in neighbouring countries.

"My best guess is that by the end of the day we will have heard pledges for 2018 of $4.4 billion", Mark Lowcock, the head of UNOCHA, told a news conference.

Lowcock thanked the EU, Germany and Britain for making large offers.

"That doesn't mean we should stop", he said.

Russian Federation had even said the attack was staged.
