YouTube Headquarters Shooter Identified As User Nasim Aghdam

The shooter wounded three people before turning the handgun on herself.

San Bruno police said they were still investigating a motive and that there is no evidence that Aghdam knew the victims she shot or that anyone was specifically targeted.

He said the family received a call from Mountain View police around 2 a.m. Tuesday telling him they found Nasim sleeping in a auto and he warned them she might go to YouTube. "There is no equal growth opportunity on YOUTUBE or any other video sharing site, your channel will grow if they want to!"

People who post on YouTube can receive money from advertisements that accompany their videos, but the company "de-monetizes" some channels for reasons including inappropriate material or having fewer than 1,000 subscribers. Aghdam had several videos on YouTube, preaching in favor of vegans and rallying against animal cruelty.

The Farsi-language content Aghdam posted on Telegram would have been unlikely to attract a large following in Iran.

YouTube employees posted on social media websites as the shooting took place. State TV briefly reported the shooting based on global reports. It opens at 11 a.m. and is about a 10-minute drive from YouTube headquarters.

Kimia Shobeiri, 18, suggested the shooting, like Aghdam's prolific posts, was a ploy to get attention.

I am writing this to say that I don't believe her actions were an act of jihad but instead the acts of a muslim woman who is angry at being silenced. "With this act she damaged the reputation of Iranians".

Aghdam was reported missing by her family on March 3 and police said they found her sleeping in her vehicle early Tuesday morning not far from YT headquarters.

"It was a very normal conversation".

Officers made contact with her in that parking lot because her license plate matched "that of a missing person out of Southern California", police said. During the shooting, she swapped out a magazine and shot from the second magazine when she killed herself.

Three people were transported to San Francisco General Hospital, according to a spokesman, including a 36-year-old man in critical condition, a 32-year-old woman in serious condition and a 27-year-old woman in fair condition.

The father of 38-year-old Nasim Aghdam told cops that she might be going to YouTube's sprawling campus near San Francisco because she "hated" the company, The Press-Enterprise reported.

The neighbor, who is Persian, said she was one of Aghdam's tens of thousands of Instagram followers, many of whom were from the Middle East. Judging by their comments, her followers seemed to view her as a curiosity, Lucy said.

According to a late-night San Bruno Police Department release, Aghdam was a 39-year-old resident of San Diego.

Aghdam wrote on her website: "There is no free speech in the world and you will be suppressed for telling the truth that is not supported by the system".

"Maybe she bought one" recently, he said.

Her father, Ismail Aghdam, brought his family to the United States from Iran in 1996.

The concerns started over the weekend when Aghdam stopped answering her phone, her brother told CNN affiliate KGTV. She once told Rundell that her pet rabbit was unhappy and asked where he got his.

San Bruno City Manager Connie Jackson told KTVU the situation was "relatively secure" about an hour after the gunshots were first reported. A woman named Leila who identified herself as an aunt said Nasim Aghdam was a "really good person" and had no history of mental illness.
