Guatemala moves Israeli embassy to Jerusalem as furore over killings continues

Global powers including the UK, France and Russian Federation had previously slammed the United States decision to move their embassy, while 128 nations backed a UN resolution rejecting the White House recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

Monday's ceremony to inaugurate the United States embassy was marred by violent clashes along the Gaza border that left 52 Palestinians dead from Israeli fire and thousands wounded, in the conflict's bloodiest day in years.

Following US foot prints Guatemala has now opened its embassy in Jerusalem on Wednesday.

During the ceremony, Netanyahu praised the Central American country for its long friendship and recognition of the Jewish State.

Guatemala was set to open its embassy in Jerusalem on Wednesday morning, two days after the USA moved its mission to the capital.

'Yanny' versus 'laurel': An expert weighs in on the debate
If you heard " Laurel ", you are the victor and have earned bragging rights for this round of internet debate. If you haven't, here's the tl;dr: There's an audio clip of a male computer-generated voice saying a word.

He said that peace-loving nations should support the two-state solution agreed upon by the worldwide community, which requires the establishment of a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Paraguay is scheduled to open a Jerusalem embassy on May 21 with its president, Horacio Cartes, due to be in attendance. Israel's claim of the city being its capital was recently strengthened by USA relocating its embassy.

Guatemalan President Jimmy Morales also said in December that the country would move its embassy back to Jerusalem. The Trump administration has said the city's final borders should be decided by the parties.

Last year, the Guatemalan President Jimmy Morales signed a decree on the transfer of the country's Embassy in Israel from tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, 109 Palestinian demonstrators have been killed by Israeli forces since the "right to return" protests began on March 30. It was the bloodiest day in the Hamas Islamist-run enclave since a 2014 war with Israel. Placed during the week that Palestinian marks the 70th anniversary of Nakba, the cataclysmic exodus which followed the expulsion of 700,000 Palestinians from their homes, both openings are an attempt to divert the worldwide community's attention.
