Guns will be banned as Trump addresses NRA meeting

Ironically, USA Today reported that the NRA actually banned guns during the event as a safety measure.

Trump met with NRA officials at the White House twice in less than a week following the Parkland massacre, and about a week after the attack on the Florida high school, Trump called the NRA leadership "great people and great American patriots" on Twitter.

There will be plenty of guns at the National Rifle Convention in Dallas this week, but one room will be completely free of weapons.

Parkland student David Hogg started a petition asking Pence to drop out of his speaking slot at the NRA convention 2018.

Attendees were similarly restricted from carrying weapons during President Trump's speech to the NRA in Atlanta past year.

"The NRA should be true to its values and ask the President and VP not to come if they can not protect them with all of those armed citizens".

Some also pointed out that armed protestors were allowed at speeches by former President Barack Obama.

No firearms or weapons of any kind will be allowed at the NRA Leadership Conference at the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center in Dallas, Texas, during Pence's appearance, according to an NRA website. The NRA wants "guns everywhere" when it comes to kids, tweeted Matt Deitsch, a Parkland student who helped organize the March for Our Lives rally for stricter gun laws in Washington.

Cameron Kasky, a survivor of the Parkland shooting, posted a screenshot of the NRA's firearm rule to Twitter, saying "The NRA has evolved into such a hilarious parody of itself".

"On so many levels, this is enlightening", tweeted Fred Guttenberg, who has become a gun safety advocate since his daughter Jaime was killed in the February 14 massacre. "Am I missing something?" he tweeted.

John Cornyn are also among the speakers scheduled to attend the event. Deitsch wrote. "Can someone explain this to me?"

"You may disagree. but in my opinion the very people that claim to protect the [Second Amendment] should never host an event that requires disarming the good guys. Sad". It makes us look stupid, " the commenter said.

Pence had been slated to deliver the convention's keynote speech Friday, which some family and friends of Parkland victims said upset them because he has yet to meet with them, something Trump did shortly after the shooting.
