'Murdered' Russian journalist Arkady Babchenko is alive

In fact, Arkady Babchenko appeared at a police news conference, where authorities were expected to give journalists an update on the investigation into his supposed murder, The Guardian reported.

According to a translation from BBC Monitoring, Babchenko said: "I would like to apologise for what all of you had to experience, that you had to get through".

On Tuesday, Ukrainian officials said Babchenko had been shot dead and that his wife had found him in a pool of blood.

News of the "death" of the prominent Russian war correspondent and former soldier set off a series of recriminations between Kiev and Moscow, and pictures and flowers were laid by mourners at the Russian embassy in Kiev.

His reported murder had triggered a war of words between Ukraine and Russian Federation and sent shivers through the journalistic communities in both countries.

"I'm still alive. I know that sickening feeling when you bury a colleague", he said, apologising. The news quickly spread around the world and appeared, for the moment at least, to worsen the already strained relationship between Moscow and Kiev.

Mr Babchenko, one of Russia's best-known war reporters, spoke and wrote previous year about leaving the country because of repeated threats that he and his family would be harmed.

To the applause and gasps of the press, Babchenko took the floor and apologized to the friends and family who mourned for him and were unaware of the plan.

Three Indians among 11 killed by cyclone Mekunu in Oman, Yemen
Several emergency rescues had to be carried out by the Oman Royal Police and Socotra authorities have relocated over 230 families. Some humanitarian aid from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates arrived on the island just hours after the cyclone receded.

The head of Ukraine's security services, Vasyl Hrytsak, said the elaborate sting was set up to catch hitmen paid by Russian forces.

He reported on Russia sending private military contractors into Syria and the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH-17 in July 2014 over eastern Ukraine, for which investigators on Friday held the Russian state responsible, something it denies.

His apparent death had been reported in Ukraine yesterday, with Kiev police saying he had been shot dead after returning to his home after going food shopping.

Mr Babchenko's "killing" was the fourth of a Kremlin critic in the Ukrainian capital in two years. On February 27 past year, he wrote on Facebook that he had left Russian Federation.

Russia's foreign ministry said in a statement: "We demand that the Ukrainian authorities make every effort to promptly investigate".

Anton Gerashchenko, a Ukrainian MP who serves as an adviser to the interior minister, said on Facebook: "As a result of the brilliant special operation conducted by Ukrainian law enforcers, the killer who was ordered to kill Arkady and the organiser of the murder was detained".

Kadyrov is also suspected by Russian opposition figures of being behind a number of killings of Kremlin critics.
