India v Afghanistan: Test debutants beaten inside two days

India lived up to their billing as the No 1 ranked Test side, by riding on a collective team effort that saw them posting a commanding 474 in their first innings before the bowlers joined the party to dismiss the rookie visitors twice in two consecutive sessions.

In the second innings, Afghanistan managed to play for 38.4 overs but with only 103 runs.

"I think with us there has to be a lot more A team cricket played against big countries by some players - players just below 18 - in England, India, Bangladesh, Australia", Simmons said.

And yet, when it came to it, they were miles off, embarrassed within two days.

India captain Ajinkya Rahane spoke about being "ruthless" against Afghanistan in the historic Test.

Ireland's players have spent years in first-class cricket and the county circuit, which helped them maintain pace in a Test match while Afghanistan struggled to slow the game down when India gained the upper hand.

Rahane was also full of praise for the Afghanistan team and said "credit to Afghanistan, they were fantastic".

It is a rare gesture in the game of cricket when the winning team have called upon the losing side to join with them in the post-match photo session. Although they would have loved to give their fans a present on the coming Eid, one expects a much better performance from them in the near future.

Afghanistan's batting couldn't handle the pressure in their very first innings with the bat as they could stick around for only 27.5 overs with a total of 109 runs. Yes, the same men who stood with their chest out and tears in their eyes during the anthem on occasion of their first Test.

Afghanistan's captain Asghar Stanikzai was disappointed at the result, but said lots of lessons will be learnt from a hard debut and thanked the fans for their support.

Since gaining one day global status in 2009, the Afghans have qualified for their second 50-over World Cup in England and Wales next year. In their first Test, they lost all 20 wickets in under 67 overs. They have been playing a lot of T20 cricket. While Vijay smashed 105 runs off 153 balls including 15 boundaries and one six, Dhawan hit 107-run knock off 96 balls-comprising of 19 boundaries and three sixes. Thinking and visualising as batsmen about how they are going to play against each opponent.

Guilty of being run out in the first innings, while trying to steal a cheeky single, he fell for 13 in second trying to push at a ball without moving his feet. "Insha'Allah (God willing), we can do well", the 30-year-old batsman said. He was ably supported by Ishant Sharma and Ravi Jadeja who picked up two wickets each. That's the best way for us to close this gap.
