White House adviser says Canada's Trudeau 'stabbed us in the back'

At the end of a long weekend of rhetorical salvos over the G7 summit's chaotic ending, German Chancellor Angela Merkel added her voice to the chorus, saying she found Donald Trump's actions "sobering and a bit depressing", while calling for more civility in global exchanges.

The US leader repeated once more that it would be a good idea for Russian Federation to return to the G7 and insisted that at the summit, some have liked the idea. "The differences in opinion have not been taken off the table".

In an unscheduled statement, Trump said he wants to put an end to the United States' status as the world's "piggy bank" and suggested eliminating trade barriers between allies.

Despite the photo's lionization of Ms. Merkel, it was Mr. Trudeau who would soon feel Mr. Trump's erratic wrath.

Taking to Twitter, Sanders said, "I find it very unusual that President Trump has such a hard time getting along with the leaders of the world's major democracies but feels very comfortable with despots and authoritarian leaders like Putin, Xi Jinping, Duterte and Mohammad Bin Salman".

He was reacting to Trudeau's declaration that Canadians would "not be pushed around" and would hit back at punishing United States tariffs on metal imports with "equivalent tariffs".

Kim Jong-un Has to Take Foreign Plane to Summit
The US President said he's hopeful that the Singapore summit will lead to a "bright new future" for North Korea and the world. Leading the American efforts in negotiating with the North Koreans, he said the U.S. is making progress, inch by inch.

Trump will be leaving the summit four hours earlier to travel to Singapore to meet North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. In late May, Washington slapped its allies with import tariffs on steel and aluminum after it failed to win concessions from its trading partners.

Just as the Trudeau-hosted Group of Seven meeting of the world's leading industrialized nations had seemed to weather Trump's threats of a trade war, the president backed out of the group's joint statement that Trudeau said all the leaders had come together to sign. Merkel said that while she could imagine such a scenario in the future, Moscow would first have to make progress in putting forth a viable peace plan for the country, Reuters reported.

The G7 - an informal annual summit of democracies with highly developed economies - took place on Friday and Saturday in the Quebec resort town of Charlevoix in Canada, which holds the rotating leadership this year.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel found the contentious Group of Seven summit with U.S. President Donald Trump a "sobering" and "depressing" experience but said European leaders won't be "taken advantage of" on trade.

Nearly 18 months into Trump's presidency, Merkel's comments offered renewed evidence of Germany's struggle to adapt to an upended relationship with the US. Also seen in the picture are Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe with his arms crossed and Trump's national security adviser John Bolton among others. "And that's what bad faith Justin Trudeau did with that stunt press conference".
