CBS keeps Moonves on job, will hire counsel to probe claims

The host then addressed the allegations against Moonves specifically, remarking that he doesn't know how CBS will choose to discipline its CEO - nor does Colbert have the answers for how Moonves' behavior should be handled. "Without Moonves at the helm, we think CBS will be less able to persuade investors that it is better off on its own". "I heard there was an article about CBS chairman and man I hope isn't watching tonight's monologue, Les Moonves".

CBS's lack of immediate action against Moonves was a "slap in the face to the fearless women who came forward", said Melissa Silverstein, founder of the blog Women and Hollywood, in a Twitter post, as social media reacted quickly to CBS's announcement.

CBS's independent board of directors said in a statement on Friday that it would "take appropriate action" at the conclusion of the investigation.

The CBS annual meeting is scheduled for August 10.

The stock reaction is about more than the accusations against Moonves. "The Board has taken no action that would change his status", a CBS spokesperson said.

Shares in CBS, after two straight days of setbacks that cut their value by 11%, have re-entered positive territory this morning, rising a fraction to about $51.50.

The article names three women - actress Illeana Douglas, writer Janet Jones and producer Christine Peters - who all tell similar stories of scheduled business meetings with Moonves where he forcibly kissed them in a clearly planned-out scenario, then threatened their careers when they rejected his advances.

New report says it's still unknown why Flight MH370 disappeared
The final voice communication from the cockpit came less than an hour after takeoff: "Good night, Malaysian three seven zero". Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamed says he would consider resuming the search if new clues came to light.

"Everybody believes in accountability until it's their guy, and make no mistake, Les Moonves is my guy", Colbert said. According to multiple reports, the CBS board is meeting today to consider the matter along with other details related to the investigation. "But I always understood and respected - and abided by the principle - that "no" means 'no, ' and I have never misused my position to harm or hinder anyone's career".

Colbert noted that Moonves had "stood by [his show] when people were mad at me and I like him", but he said that wouldn't stop him from holding him accountable for potential wrongdoings.

CBS Corporation is the parent company of CBS News.

The sources told CNNMoney that the Monday meeting was scheduled before a bombshell report in the New Yorker Friday detailed allegations against the CEO.

"Regardless of Moonves' personal fate, his future and the future of nine other CBS board of directors is now in question".

Moonves has been very well compensated for his company's success.
