Trump says he 'misspoke' on Russian Federation meddling, hails USA intelligence

Trump said on Tuesday he had complete faith in United States intelligence agencies and accepted their conclusions, although he insisted Russia's actions had no impact on the outcome.

It was mostly business as usual on Capitol Hill on Tuesday, just one day after Trump stood alongside Putin in Helsinki and sided with the Russian strongman over his own intelligence services while also calling the Justice Department probe into possible Moscow-Trump campaign collusion a "disaster".

Trump said so many people at the higher ends of intelligence loved his press conference performance in Helsinki.

"The sentence should have been, "I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be Russia" so, just to repeat it, I said the word "would" instead of 'wouldn't". sort of a double negative", he continued.

Moran visited Russian Federation with other senators earlier this month and faced criticism for being there on the Fourth of July.

After his remarks, the White House released a fact sheet on how the U.S.is "standing up to Russia's malign activities" - a clear bid to counter the notion that Mr. Trump had been soft on Mr. Putin.

During Monday's news conference, Trump said, "I don't see any reason why it would be" Russian Federation who interfered in the election. "We have to remain vigilant".

Members of Congress, including several powerful Republicans, distanced themselves from Trump's remarks and aligned themselves with U.S. intelligence estimates that Russian Federation had interfered in the election. Jenkins also referred the reporter to a video of the late conservative William F. Buckley Jr. berating the notion that the US and Union of Soviet Socialist Republics were equally to blame for the strained relations between the two countries. "It's still early. He can start by even tweeting something out today". "Shameful", "disgraceful", "weak", were a few of the comments.

Schumer also called for the immediate passage of legislation to enhance election security, and reiterated calls for the Senate to hold immediate hearings to get testimony from Trump's national security team about what transpired during the private Trump-Putin meeting "so we can find out what the heck happened there".

The President said: "This incredible woman right here is doing a fantastic job, a great job". May in the garden of her official country residence Chequers.

"I was really glad to see [members] on both sides of the aisle condemning what happened", he said, adding he has supported much of Trump's domestic agenda.

When asked if he believed the findings of his intelligence agencies on Russia's meddling, Trump had said: "My people came to me".

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said on Tuesday that it's "indisputable" that Russian Federation "tried to impact" the election.

"We also spoke of Iran and the need to halt the nuclear ambitions and destabilizing activities taking place in Iran", he said, pointing out that recent U.S. rejection of the 2015 nuclear deal has "had a major impact on Iran".

As some senators discuss slapping new sanctions on Moscow, President Donald Trump is defending his widely panned summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin, tweeting he had a "great" meeting with North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies but an "even better" one with the Russian president.

Newt Gingrich - one of President Trump's strongest allies - branded the comments "the most serious mistake of his presidency" and urged the former reality TV star to immediately correct himself.

Mrs. Sanders said the president was focused on "long-term economic principles".

Fellow GOP politicians have generally stuck with Trump during a year and a half of turmoil, but he was assailed as seldom before as he returned home Monday night from what he had hoped would be a proud summit with Putin. "Isn't it natural to feel sympathy to a person who wanted to develop relations with our country?"
