The France global has been involved in Chelsea's pre-season under new manager Maurizio Sarri and started in their last friendly on Tuesday night against Lyon at Stamford Bridge.

According to Corriere della sera, as cited on Calciomercato, AC Milan have had talks with the Blues over a deal to sign the player on loan, but face competition from Everton and Borussia Dortmund.

He struggled to make an impact in midfield for the Blues however, who could only finish fifth in the Premier League.

A breakthrough was reached during talks with Madrid as news broke over the past 24 hours claiming that the Croatian global was due to fly-in to London to undergo his medical ahead of a move to Chelsea.
