NASA, ULA to try again tonight to launch Parker Solar Probe

NASA has postponed the launch of its first-ever probe to the sun due to a last-minute technical problem.

This photo provided by NASA shows the United Launch Alliance Delta IV Heavy rocket with the Parker Solar Probe onboard shortly after the Mobile Service Tower was rolled back, Friday, Aug. 10, 2018, at Launch Complex 37 at Ca.

The probe is set to use seven Venus flybys over almost seven years to gradually reduce its orbit around the Sun, using instruments created to image the solar wind and study electric and magnetic fields, coronal plasma and energetic particles.

According to NASA, its Parker Solar Probe will revolutionise the understanding of the Sun, our closest star. This will provide scientists with new data to forecast changes in Earth's space environment.

The Parker Solar Probe has been a dream project for the scientists since decades, but the highly advanced technologies like the fault management system, solar array cooling system and the heat shield have been available recently to make this almost impossible mission a reality. Why in this region does the solar atmosphere suddenly get so energized that it escapes from the hold of the sun and bathes all of the planets?

The Parker Solar Probe is named after Chicago native 91-year-old Dr. Eugene Parker.

Instead, Trump and his administration officials have discovered they have a lot of common ground and negotiations have gone well. Adam Austen, a spokesman for 's foreign minister, added: "We're glad and the USA continue to work out their bilateral issues".

This is the first time NASA has named a spacecraft after a living person.

It will be the fastest manmade moving object in history and NASA hope it will come within 3.83 million miles of the sun's surface, making 24 loops of the star over seven years.

"I realise that might not sound that close, but imagine the Sun and the Earth were a metre apart". Each flyby will provide an orbit-shaping gravity boost, drawing it ever closer to the sun and straight into the corona - the sun's outermost atmosphere. "We're still three times closer than anything has been before".

Scorching, yes? But if all works as planned, the inside of the spacecraft should stay at just 85 degrees Fahrenheit.

"If you think about the amount of particles that actually are striking the heat shield and depositing that heat in, the whole thing gets heated up to 2,500 degrees Fahrenheit". That will be seven times closer than previous spacecraft.

In addition to helping scientists better understand our own little corner of the universe, the revelations inspired by Parker and its instruments will help scientists study sun-like stars elsewhere in the cosmos.
