New study finds glyphosate in kids' cereals and snack bars

And now, according to independent laboratory tests commissioned by Environmental Working Group (EWG), glyphosate has been found in a number of popular oat cereals, oatmeal, granola and snack bars.

A previous version of this article listed KIND among products as having "hefty" levels of glyphosate, according to a report by the advocacy organization the Environmental Working Group.

The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), part of the World Health Organization, classified glyphosate as a probable carcinogen in 2015.

A California jury on August 10 found Monsanto liable in a lawsuit filed by a man who alleged the company's glyphosate-based weed-killers, including Roundup, caused his cancer and ordered the company to pay $289 million in damages.

In an interview with The Times on Wednesday, Scott Partridge, a vice president at Monsanto, said that hundreds of studies had validated the safety of glyphosate and that it doesn't cause cancer.

Still, after weeks of testimony from several experts on both sides, a jury concluded that Monsanto's Roundup and Ranger Pro products presented a "substantial danger" to terminally ill 46-year-old Dewayne "Lee" Johnson, who became sick after using the spray for more than two years.

"As this case proceeds, Bayer believes courts ultimately will find that Monsanto and glyphosate were not responsible for Mr. Johnson's illness", the company said.

But makers of the foods EWG tested said they and their suppliers operate within USA government safety guidelines and dismissed the group's findings as irrelevant.

Monsanto has frequently disputed the allegations that Roundup's glyphosate causes cancer, and it told CBS on August 15 that "glyphosate does not cause cancer" and "has a more than 40-year history of safe use".

Trump Says U.S. Won't Pay Turkey for Pastor's Release
Following the Qatar news, the lira firmed briefly to 5.8699 from 6.04 to the dollar, before easing back to 6.0500 by 1658 GMT. For years Turkish firms have borrowed in dollars and lira to take advantage of lower interest rates.

What's high? Well, the EWG suggests kids shouldn't be exposed to more than 160 parts per billion per day (ppb).

According to an Environmental Protection Agency, glyphosate "is not likely to be carcinogenic to humans". Glyphosate does not cause cancer. About one-third of 16 samples made with organically grown oats also had glyphosate, all at levels well below EWG's health benchmark.

Glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup, has been under scrutiny for years.

He went on to say that the standards set by the EPA "pose real health risks to Americans-particularly children, who are more sensitive to the effects of toxic chemicals than adults".

If you or your children are eating Cheerios right now, there's a good chance that they're accompanied by a potentially harmful weed killer called Roundup.

"Glyphosate does not belong in cereal", Tenkin wrote.

Even organic oats can be contaminated if they sit next to fields where glyphosate is sprayed, or if they're processed on the same equipment as conventionally grown oats.

"This case brings up the question of how much protection do we need for Roundup and we're simply not sure, which is a big problem", he says. Kellogg, for example, said its food is safe and that the ingredients it buys from suppliers fall under the EPA's "strict standards for safe levels of these agricultural residues". "The EPA has researched this issue and has set rules that we follow". The higher the level, the worse for your health.
