California Lawmaker Shelves ‘Gay Conversion Therapy’ Ban Legislation for 2018

The California State Legislature passed what is considered the nation's toughest so-called net neutrality law on Friday, sending the bill to Gov.

Broadband providers would not be able to slow down or block websites or charge higher fees for faster speeds, according to the legislation sponsored by Sen.

More than 20 states are suing the FCC to overturn the agency's decision on net neutrality and almost three dozen states have introduced bills to replace the defunct regulations with three states have already approved them. After making it through the Assembly on a 48-25 vote in May, the Senate approved it this week 25-12.

The legislation will now proceed to the governor's desk for a signature in the coming weeks. "We hope that other states can look to this legislation as a model for net neutrality standards". Zero rating is when ISPs exempt certain types of online traffic from counting against customers' data caps.

Earlier today, California Assemblyman Evan Low (D-Campbell) withdrew a bill that would have outlaws the sale of any service, including certain forms of advertising, meant to change an individual's sexuality or gender identity.

Aretha Franklin's funeral to fuse spirit with star power
The six-hour funeral, which begins at 14:00 BST, will feature performances from Stevie Wonder , Ariana Grande , and Chaka Khan . Ranked the best singer of all time by Rolling Stone in 2008, Franklin received many accolades over the years.

But the current FCC, led by Republican Chairman Ajit Pai, repealed those regulations in June, with Pai calling them "heavy-handed".

After Pai was appointed by President Donald Trump past year to head the FCC, one of his first acts was a plan to roll back the Obama-era regulations.

California would become the fourth state to pass its own net neutrality protections, but the largest and most consequential. The bill also tasks the state attorney general with evaluating potential evasion of the net neutrality rules on a case-by-case basis. Opponents of net neutrality have long said they favor less regulation.

The company is potentially on the hook for billions of dollars if its equipment is ultimately blamed for wildfires that destroyed thousands of homes in Northern California wine country last October, the most expensive fire storm in state history. However, it's likely that it will face court challenges on a federal level, given that the FCC said that its order preempts states' rights, and therefore they're not allowed to restore the rules. 1906 by Assemblywoman Jacqui Irwin (D), won a final vote of 48-14 in the Assembly Aug. 30 to accept Senate amendments.

The proposals come amid rising privacy and security concerns about Internet of Things devices, including the potential for data collection from users. "And they're not going to let their elected officials get away with it if they sell out their constituents by siding with big telecom companies".
