Dallas Officer Amber Guyger Arrested For Fatally Shooting Botham Jean

She is being held on $300,000 bail. Online records initially showed Guyger was in custody, but she later was not listed on the jail inmate roster.

Botham Jean speaks at Harding University, March 24, 2014. It was a white female officer, a Dallas police officer, who shot and killed a person from Saint Lucia who happened to be of African descent.

In the May 2017 incident, Guyger was trying to identify a woman in a auto when another passenger got out and took her taser, police said in the release.

Merritt said attorneys presented prosecutors with a witness and video evidence but declined to elaborate. They didn't provide details. It wasn't immediately clear if Guyger had an attorney.

"If there is probable cause that a crime has been committed in this jurisdiction, it is incumbent on law enforcement, and particularly the district attorney's office, to issue a warrant for the arrest of the officer involved", Merritt said.

Thursday's shooting occurred after Guyger was returning home in uniform from a 12-hour shift, according to police.

The Texas Rangers will take the appropriate time to review the vast amount of evidence and information secured by Dallas Police Department investigators. West called Jean's death a "homicide", but noted all the open questions.

Jean is black and Guyger is white.

Crump has also represented the families of Stephon Clark and Terence Crutcher, both also black and unarmed.

Jean's family arrived in Dallas Saturday morning and met with Mayor Mike Rawlings before attending a vigil in the afternoon at the 26-year-old's church.

Twitter permanently bans Alex Jones and Infowars show for 'abusive behaviour'
As part of the ban, Jones will not be able to create new accounts on Twitter or take over any existing ones. Jones is quoted as saying Darcy had "the eyes of a rat", and accused CNN of wishing to police the Internet.

"Botham loved mankind", Jean's mother, Allison said Saturday. Botham loved mankind. Botham never saw color, race.

Jon W. Morrison, minister for the Cedar Crest Church of Christ in Dallas, said, "When we do not have answers, we have prayer". "We are here to express our outrage, and we are here to demand accountability", said Imam Omar Suleiman, an activist, at the event organised by the Dallas-based Mothers Against Police Brutality group.

Allison Jean in comments Friday broadcast by Dallas TV station KXAS questioned whether the off-duty officer would have reacted differently if she encountered a white man. "He's a bachelor. Things are different inside", she told NBC Dallas-Fort Worth.

Botham Jean served as a regular song leader and taught a Wednesday night class for young adults, minister and elder Sammie Berry said. In 2017, she shot Uvaldo Perez, 47.

The officer called 911 and officers "responded in about four minutes", Hall said.

One of the officers was trying to search Perez when he became combative, the affidavit said. "At some point she fired her weapon striking the victim", CNN wrote, quoting the chief. Neither Guyger nor the other officers were injured in the 2017 shooting. Also, the officer was not one of the people with Jean in a picture that has been circulating on social media, sources said.

Jean, who grew up on the Caribbean Island of St Lucia and worked as a PricewaterhouseCoopers associate, was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. They described Jean as a devout Christian and a talented singer.

Morrison prayed that God would use Botham Jean's death "to bring us together and not to divide us". His uncle Ignatius Jean said the slaying left relatives devastated and looking for answers.

"He would always say to me, 'Brother Berry, I want to do more, '" Berry recalled. However, the Texas Department of Public Safety Texas Rangers are ensuring that "transparency" is maintained throughout the investigation, Dallas Police Chief Renee Hall said.
