Donald Trump's autumn visit to Ireland postponed because of 'scheduling reasons'

The visit had been projected for November, when Trump is scheduled to be in Europe for a French commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I.

The U.S. President had planned to visit Dublin, and his five-star West Clare resort, on November 12th and 13th. "As details are confirmed we will let you know", Sanders said. "We are still finalizing whether Ireland will be a stop on that trip", Sanders said.

The Government said at the time it would provide an opportunity to follow up on issues discussed by Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and Mr Trump in the White House in March, which included migration, trade, climate change and human rights issues.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has yet to respond to the news.

"I can confirm that the proposed visit of the US President is postponed", wrote Laura Durkan, a press officer with the Irish prime minister's office.

Last week Ireland's deputy premier Simon Coveney said the Irish government was "a little taken by surprise" when the announcement was made.

But ahead of the Raiders' first game of the season, head coach Jon Gruden had some choice words about Mack's holdout in Oakland. Not again: Packers star quarterback Aaron Rodgers continued his domination of the Bears.

An advance party from the White House was due to visit Ireland in the coming weeks to plan the trip but that has also been cancelled.

"We've got to work out on a programme and all the rest of it but I think any programme we will have will have to respect the fact that we will inaugurating our own President on the 11th of November".

Political parties including Labour and the Greens had said they would be protesting against Mr Trump's visit.

He said the way Mr Trump's visit and expected cancellation played out has been "extraordinary".

The Irish Government had been heavily criticised for the planned visit.
