`Fort Trump'? It's a possibly says Poland

The president of Poland told President Donald Trump that he'd like the United Statess to create a permanent American base in Poland that would be named Fort Trump.

President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump greet Polish President Andrzej Duda (R) and wife Agata Kornhauser-Duda (L) on the south portico of the White House in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday.

"Poland is willing to make a very major contribution to the United States to come in and have a presence in Poland", Trump added.

Mr Duda made a direct appeal in their joint press conference saying that a permanent base would be named "Fort Trump" in honour of the USA leader.

"I hope that we will build Fort Trump in Poland together, Mr. President", Duda said.

The two North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies share security concerns in face of Russia's increased military activity and Poland is seeking a greater USA troop presence on its territory.

Trump, who has repeatedly threatened to punish countries if they don't spend enough on defense, said he would only agree if Poland is willing to pay the United States. "I was smiling when I was talking to Mr President".

The law imposes a lower retirement age, removing numerous court's judges including its president - a move Poland's government said will help to free the country from its last ties to the old communist regime.

Putin: Syrian Downing of Russian Jet Was 'Tragic, Accidental'
It accused the Israelis of using the Russian plane as a cover to avoid Syrian air defense systems. Israeli military officials have previously praised its effectiveness.

The US now supplies most of the troops, about 900, for a rotating North Atlantic Treaty Organisation battalion in Poland as part of the alliance response to Russian intervention in Ukraine and Moscow's muscle-flexing along its western borders involving large-scale military exercises.

American soldiers were deployed to Poland in January 2017, the first US military presence on the country's soil since the fall of communism in 1989.

Later in the event, Trump and Duda took questions from the audience.

"I think it's a very aggressive situation", Trump said. These activities, deemed by the alliance to be "aggressive" are mainly military drills, held by Russian Federation on its own territory. "And we're looking at that more and more from the standpoint of defending really wealthy countries and not being. paid".

The push by Poland comes amid historic rival Russia's increased military activity.

Seeking a check on Russian aggression, Poland wants the 3,000 U.S. troops now deployed in Poland on a rotating basis to be upgraded to a larger, permanent presence.
