The Portuguese weather service said that wind gusts of up to 74 mph are possible by the weekend in the Azores, an island chain about 850 miles west of Portugal.

Moderate to strong northwesterly shear and dry mid-level air are likely to cause Isaac to weaken to a tropical depression or even become an open wave within the next day or so, the NHC reported.

Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 40 miles per hour (65 km/h) with higher gusts. A NOAA hurricane hunter aircraft will soon fly through the center of Isaac, and will provide a better assessment of the intensity of the tropical storm and the extent of its winds.

While Hurricane Florence pounds North Carolina, another tropical storm is on track to reach Britain early next week.

The storm is projected to shift northeast with an increase in forward speed in the coming days, forecasters said.

Screaming winds bent trees toward the ground and raindrops flew sideways as Florence's leading edge whipped the Carolina coast Thursday to begin an onslaught that could last for days, leaving a wide area under water from both heavy downpours and rising seas. Swells generated by the storm could produce life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.

"What we will get are the remnants of the tropical storm". It should dissipate by early next week, the hurricane center said.

Hurricane Florence from space: "A no-kidding nightmare"
Storm over the Atlantic ocean "looks very bad", wrote in his Twitter the President of the United States Donald trump. Happy #FullDiskFriday! #GOESEast is keeping an eye on Tropical Storm #Florence from 22,300 miles out in space.

With Hurricane Florence, numerous coastline will see water levels from the storm surge rise over 3 feet, with some families seeing over 9 feet of water near their homes.

"As it tracks towards the United Kingdom it will degrade - it will become an ex-tropical storm". Flash flooding is going to be a big issue soon - certainly catastrophic.

In the latest information from the National Hurricane Center, Hurricane Florence has been downgraded to a Category 2 event.

STORM SURGE: Some coastal flooding is possible in areas of onshore winds.

However, the center of Florence could hit as early as Thursday night rather than Friday morning, according to the latest NOAA estimates at the time of this writing.

We have seen this unfold before, when out of a very quiet hurricane season develops a rapidly intensifying hurricane that barrels toward the mid-Atlantic U.S. east coast.
