Legendary actor Burt Reynolds has died

According to reports, the star of Smokey and the Bandit, Deliverance and Boogie Nights was recovering from a short illness in hospital when he suffered a heart attack.

Reynolds' movie Defining Moments is set to be released in December 2018.

He was also offered the role of British super spy James Bond, Reynolds said, but he turned it down, thinking only an Englishman should play that iconic role. He told the Mirror he regretted his bad choices.

After the loss to N.C. State, Reynolds gave up the game and began his acting career. "I was recently with my friend Clint Eastwood, who's had one of the most successful careers of all". The movie made the song Dueling Banjos popular, it turned rural Southerners into a punchline and just as importantly, it made Reynolds a household name.

With his sex symbol good looks and mischievous, self-deprecating sense of humor, Reynolds always seemed like a shoe-in for big-screen stardom.

Reynolds came to stardom in Deliverance and Smokey and the Bandit in the 1970s, and was still making movies more than 40 years later.

He also - notably - featured as the first nude male centrefold in the April, 1972, issue of Cosmopolitan magazine. I don't know what I was thinking.

"I do miss her. You find the flawless person, and then you do everything you can to screw it up".

Reynolds scored another major role as the lead in the Smokey and the Bandit series, which seemed to perfectly fit his image as a smooth and sharply sarcastic country boy with a disregard for authority.

The actor died of cardiac arrest, his agent, Todd Eisner, told NBC News. He was playing a lot of rather serious characters around this time and his Tonight Show appearances showed how charming he could be, as well.

In recent years, Reynolds also battled his health; he was injured while filming City Heat, underwent back surgery in 2009 and a quintuple heart bypass in 2010.
