Republican senators say anonymous op-ed will embolden Trump

Jodi Kantor, an investigative reporter with the New York Times, tweeted: 'So basically: Times reporters now must try to unearth the identity of an author that our colleagues in Opinion have sworn to protect with anonymity?

The author, who was classified as a senior administration official, essentially claimed to be saving the country by working as "the resistance" against President Trump.

The 448-page book is scheduled to hit stores on September 11 and claims to give an insider's account on the White House working and decision-making process in Trump's presidency.

McMahon isn't the only one to deny that she wrote the article either.

The anonymous author wrote that where Trump has had successes, they have come "despite - not because of - the president's leadership style, which is impetuous, adversarial, petty and ineffective".

Let's just hope this saga doesn't end like this.

It was reported that Melania Trump or even fellow Republican Mike Pence because of the usage of the word "lodestar" might have been behind the explosive op-ed that surfaced yesterday via the New York Times.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders released a statement in which she described the piece as "a new low for the so-called paper of record'".

The writer, identified by the Times only as a senior administration official, said that he or she, and others in government, have vowed to thwart the president's "more misguided impulses until he is out of office". If a person is bold enough to accuse people of negative actions, they have a responsibility to publicly stand by their words and people have the right to be able to defend themselves.

He also - notably - featured as the first nude male centrefold in the April, 1972, issue of Cosmopolitan magazine. You find the flawless person, and then you do everything you can to screw it up".

"What we need here are, finally, I think, some hearings in which an executive session or open session, those around the president of the United States are questioned about the fitness of Trump to be the president of the United States", Bernstein, a CNN political analyst, said on the network.

HuffPost reached out to The New York Times, which had no comment about Sanders' tweet.

He called it "a disgrace" and the writer "gutless" during an event with sheriffs at the White House on Wednesday afternoon.

Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, U.N. ambassador Nikki Haley and Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin also issued denials. The column attracted so much attention - as much for its existence as for what it actually said - that it raised the expectation that the author is someone powerful, she said.

Mike Pompeo, speaking from Delhi, addressed the matter directly. "But in context, the author is a coward confessing to a coup and daring Trump to get worse", veteran journalist Dan Froomkin said. "So we will do what we can to steer the administration in the right direction until - one way or another - it's over".

Some say the essay was the pathetic "me too" effort by The New York Times to match the scoops in Woodward's book published in The Washington Post.

During a campaign appearance in Billings, Montana, Trump also praised Greg Gianforte, the Republican congressman who physically attacked the Guardian reporter Ben Jacobs previous year, as "a fighter and a winner".

"President Trump is facing a test to his presidency unlike any faced by a modern American leader", said the author of op-ed titled "I am part of the resistance inside the Trump administration". "This means, this whole time, we've been dealing with the watered-down version of Trump?" he said.
