Trump says Woodward's book 'Fear' about White House is full of lies

I am greatly concerned that everyone seems to want to "get" the person who wrote the op-ed to The New York Times regarding the Trump administration, but no one is disputing the op-ed's contents of what's going on the Trump White House ("Anonymous op-ed regarding president should horrify us all", September 6).

"It's frankly, I think, sad and pathetic that a gutless anonymous source could receive so much attention from the media", Sanders said of the New York Times piece.

Sanders denied the White House is conducting its own investigation to uncover the source behind the article.

Trump even (mis) quoted Today host Savannah Guthrie asking guest Woodward about the book, though in Trump's tweet her question is meant to sound more like a condemnation.

The resulting work - Published by Simon and Schuster, a division of CBS - exposes turmoil within the administration, with current and former White House aides referring to President Trump as an "idiot" and a "liar".

Sanders wouldn't rule out a lawsuit against Woodward on Monday, though Trump has long threatened legal action against his detractors that never materializes.

"Some of the things Trump did, and does, jeopardize the real national security", Woodward said.

Can we do it every couple of years in the big tournaments and the big moments. They wanted to bounce back after their difficulties at the World Cup .

It was not clear how aggressive White House efforts were to root out the op-ed writer, though a person close to the White House who was not authorized to speak publicly said officials had focused in on a few names. "But someone actively trying to undermine the duly elected president and the entire executive branch of government, that seems quite problematic to me and something they should take a look at", she said.

Asked later whether the White House would list all the things in Woodward's book that are wrong, Sanders said such an exercise "would be a complete and utter waste of our time, so no".

Cohn, who appears to have been an important source for the book, reportedly told Trump that printing huge amounts of money is seen as inflationary, but the president maintained an interest in the idea.

Sanders fired back: "I think we would say that it's about as ridiculous as most of Bob Woodward's book".

Defence Secretary James Mattis left a meeting with Trump about that request "exasperated and alarmed", and told people in the President's inner circle that he had "acted like - and had the understanding of - 'a fifth- or sixth-grader, '" according to Woodward.

Pressed on whether Trump can win a credibility battle with the Pulitzer victor who helped expose President Richard Nixon's Watergate-era transgressions, Sanders pointed to "actual, on record" accounts from White House staffers, again pointing to Mattis and Kelly, "not disgruntled former employees". "It seems like a very careless and reckless way to write a book".

"It happens frequently", Woodward said. None of these terms existed prior to Mr. Trump so one can say he created them in order to justify his campaign? He called their denials "political statements to protect their jobs, totally understandable".
