Trump reopens FBI investigation into Kavanaugh

Grassley's letter was in response to a letter received from Sanders, which called for an investigation of whether Judge Kavanaugh lied to the Senate Judiciary Committee in his testimony refuting Dr. Christine Blasey Ford's allegation for sexual assault.

Mr Kavanaugh denied the accusation at the Senate Judiciary Committee yesterday, saying he was a victim of "grotesque and obvious character assassination".

Judge, who Ford says was in the room when a drunken Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her, said he will cooperate with any law enforcement agency that will "confidentially investigate" sexual misconduct allegations against him and Kavanaugh.

Why didn't Mr Kavanaugh and his Republican supporters want the FBI to investigate?

The letter comes just a day after President Donald Trump ordered the FBI to perform a one-week, supplemental investigation into allegations made against Judge Kavanaugh.

Independent journalist Marcy Wheeler argued that the primary reason the White House is working to "carefully control" the scope of the Federal Bureau of Investigation probe is because "Kavanaugh lied so much on Thursday that if Federal Bureau of Investigation pursues obvious leads, [Kavanaugh] will get referred for lying his ass off".

Flake, who is retiring, described to The Atlantic on Friday night his last-minute decision to change his mind on moving ahead with a quick confirmation of Kavanaugh.

Trump has now determined that he and he alone will be the sole arbiter of whether a woman's claims of sexual assault and misogyny are credible.

Keyser is also former Fox News personality Bob Beckel's ex-wife with whom she has two children. She has said Judge Kavanaugh exposed himself to her during their freshman year at Yale.

She said, "The entire industry saw what happened but there was not one word of condemnation from anybody". The casting directors only decide who will play the side roles and subsequent roles.

Kavanaugh on Friday continued to defend himself and said he will be cooperating with FBI investigators.

Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.), a centrist Democrat who was instrumental in helping convince Flake to urge for a delay in the confirmation process, argued that severely limiting the list of witnesses whom the FBI is allowed to interview does not represent a serious investigation.

Following Ford's testimony, Kavanaugh vigorously denied the allegations before the committee and accused Democrats of launching a last-minute attempt to derail his nomination.

A senior administration official told the Times that Don McGahn was leading the White House effort to help direct the scope of the background check. Swetnick accused Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct during parties in the 1980s when he attended Georgetown Prepatory School.

White it remains unclear who else the FBI may engage during the investigation, at least two potentially key witnesses have said they intend to cooperate.

He has already denied Dr Ford's allegations. "They'll be doing things that we have never even thought of", he said.

Senator Susan Collins, who was among a handful of Republican moderates who had pushed for the investigation, said in an email: "I am confident that the FBI will follow up on any leads that result from the interviews".

"They [the White House] can not say, "Oh hey, only interview the people in their neighborhood on one side of the street.' Or 'Only interview people from a certain period of their life, '" Klobuchar said during an appearance of CBS" "Face the Nation". Ford said the alleged attack had caused her lasting trauma, and she was visibly anguished as she recalled the events Thursday before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
